Each glass has a bell-shaped bowl detailed with three rows of crisscross cuts and elongated thumbprint accents. The bowl rests on a multi-sided stem ringed with facets near the foot. The crystal is clear and has a satisfying weight in the hand.
Claret glasses were traditionally made for red Bordeaux, and their generous bowls suit any full-bodied red. A lovely gift for a wine lover, a new homeowner, or anyone collecting fine Italian crystal.
Royal Crystal Rock, known as RCR Cristalleria Italiana, was founded in 1967 by a group of local artisans in Colle di Val d'Elsa, the Tuscan town known as the "City of Crystal," where glassmaking is documented from at least the 14th century. In 1973 the company introduced electric melting furnaces and its first automatic goblet line, and its crystal found a wide audience through the 1980s and 1990s. RCR has since moved to lead-free Luxion® glass, so Linea Medici is now a retired pattern, sought out by collectors and anyone replacing stemware.
