Each goblet is blown amber glass on Fostoria's Stem 869, finished with the Etch 273 design that gives Royal Amber its name. Royal Amber was a discontinued Fostoria pattern, offered from 1925 to 1933. Because all eight match, they work as a complete set for a full table.
Set them out for dinner parties, holiday tables, or everyday water and iced tea, or give them to someone who loves a table with a little glow.
Fostoria Glass began on December 15, 1887, in Fostoria, Ohio, where a new natural gas field had been offered at low cost to attract industry. The field ran dry quickly, and in 1891 the company moved to Moundsville, West Virginia, where gas and coal were plentiful. Its first years were spent making pressed ware. Early in the twentieth century, Fostoria turned to fine blown stemware, the kind of glass Royal Amber represents. In 1924, just before this pattern debuted, it became one of the first American glass companies to run national advertising. It was also the first to produce complete dinner services in crystal. At its peak in 1950, the company made more than eight million pieces in a single year. Lancaster Colony bought Fostoria in 1983 and closed the Moundsville plant in 1986, ending nearly a century of glassmaking.
