This open-lattice silverplate tray has been passing rolls at American tables for over a century — the reticulated pattern catches light at every angle.

Stamped HMC with the EPNS mark (Electro Plated Nickel Silver) and the "Sheffield Design" designation — a reference to the pierced, reticulated lattice style associated with Sheffield silverwork, not the English city itself. According to reliable sources the "Sheffield Design" and "Made in USA" stamp structure narrows down the era to 1920s or 1930s.  

The open lattice pattern is as striking empty as it is full.  Beautiful on a brunch or breakfast table for bread, rolls, or cookies — equally at home as a catch-all at an entry table, a candy dish, or a small display tray.

Homan Manufacturing Company traces back to 1847, when Henry Homan and Asa F. Flagg began making Britannia ware in Cincinnati, Ohio. The firm moved into silverplate production around 1864 and went through several names as it grew — Homan Silver Plate Co. from roughly 1896, then Homan Manufacturing Co. from around 1910 — before closing permanently in 1941.
