Gold crowns and shields march around frosted glass on this Anchor Hocking bowl, mid-century American glassware with a heraldic streak.

  • Maker: Anchor Hocking
  • Materials: Frosted glass with gold decoration
  • Dimensions: 10.75" diameter (top opening), 4.75" diameter (base), 6" tall
  • Origin: USA
  • Era: Vintage 1950s-1960s
  • Condition: Very good; slight wear on the gold areas consistent with age, no chips or cracks. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

Made as part of Anchor Hocking's chip-and-dip line, though the original pattern name wasn't preserved. Collectors now call it English Crown and Shields, and the design repeats continuously around the outside of the bowl.

A striking piece for a bar cart, buffet table or game night, and equally at home holding a big salad, chips or fruit.

Anchor Hocking took its name in 1937, when the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation joined with the Hocking Glass Company of Lancaster, Ohio. The combined company became one of the best-known makers of American pressed glassware, and its frosted and gold-trimmed pieces from the 1950s and 1960s are especially popular with collectors of mid-century entertaining pieces.
