A lacquered wood box from China, 1970s — the lid inlaid with shell art in the form of a lotus flower, the exterior rich with a mahogany-like grain. Inside, red satin floral damask. The brass-tone latch is ornate, with openings for a small lock, and the hinges are all intact. It has lived a life: scratches, dings on the corners, slight fraying on the interior fabric, some separation in the ring holders. Nothing hidden, everything photographed.
Not gift-worthy in the traditional sense — but lovely on a bookshelf, tucked into a larger display, or used as a catch-all where something beautiful is wanted and perfection isn't required. Priced accordingly.
