At the center is the Great Seal of the United States, with the eagle holding an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other, and 13 stars above it representing the original colonies. The scalloped border carries script lettering reading "United States of America" across the top and "1776 Bicentennial 1976" along the bottom, and embossed "wooden stick" handles frame each side.

The Great Seal of the United States was adopted in 1782, and its eagle, olive branch, and arrows express a nation that holds both peace and the power of war.
