Ten inches tall, solid brass, each vase standing on a sturdy pedestal foot with a ruffled rim and hand-engraved enamelwork in the champlevé technique — grooves cut into the brass and filled with colored enamel, then fired and polished. The result is a surface with genuine depth and warmth that no printed or painted decoration can replicate. The patina is exactly right: still bright enough to glow, worn enough to feel real. Slight enamel wear consistent with age. Unmarked but confirmed Indian. Can be used as vases or candle holders — both are equally beautiful.
Champlevé is one of the oldest enamelwork techniques in the world, dating back to the ancient Celts and later perfected by medieval European craftsmen. The Indian tradition of brass enamelwork — particularly from Rajasthan — has produced some of the finest champlevé pieces of the 20th century, exported widely during the global boho design movement of the 1970s and 1980s.
A statement pair for a global boho, eclectic, or maximalist interior — or for any collector who appreciates fine metalwork with centuries of craft tradition behind it.
