The red and the dark Christmas green are unmistakable. The original store label, with its original price, and the German origin date this tray to the 1980s, since later pieces in the pattern were also made in Spain and France. The manufacturer lists the plates as dishwasher safe.
A wonderful hostess or holiday gift, and a nostalgic pick for anyone who remembers this pattern on the holiday table.
Waechtersbach earthenware began in 1832, when Count Adolf zu Ysenburg und Büdingen founded a factory at Schlierbach in Hesse, Germany, near the town of Wächtersbach, after white clay was found in the nearby forest. The company grew into one of Germany's best-known makers of brightly colored glazed earthenware, and it opened a sales office in Kansas City in 1976 to reach American tables. The Christmas Tree pattern was introduced that same year and ran until 2012, a long run for a holiday pattern and the reason so many families still set it out each December.
