Tumbler: State Map Souvenir Glass, Kentucky, Blue and Frosted, Vintage 1960s

A frosted souvenir tumbler with "Kentucky" in bold script above a steamboat on the river, and a blue map of the Blue Grass State with the Kentucky Derby thundering across it.

• Maker: Unmarked
• Pattern: State Souvenir Map, Kentucky
• Materials: Frosted glass with raised fired-on color illustration
• Dimensions: 5″ tall, 2.75″ diameter
• Origin: USA
• Era: Vintage 1960s–1970s
• Condition: Good. The blue has faded unevenly, so it is darker in some areas than others, and the frosting is thinner in places. There's visible wear. The lettering and map remain readable. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

"Kentucky" is lettered in large black script across the top, with a steamboat on the river and a bridge beside it. "The Blue Grass State" arches over the other side, above a Kentucky Derby jockey on horseback. The map is printed in blue and lettered in black, and it marks Frankfort, where a capitol dome sits beside a star.  Landmarks include the Audubon Memorial, Kentucky Dam and Lake, Mammoth Cave, the Lincoln Memorial, Cumberland Falls, and Bluelicks Battlefield. The fired-on design is raised and the base is unmarked.

A great find for the collector building a fifty-state set, for a Kentuckian, and for anyone who plans a Derby party.

The Kentucky Derby has been run every spring at Churchill Downs in Louisville since 1875, and it is the most famous horse race in America. The "Blue Grass State" nickname comes from the bluegrass pastures that raise the state's Thoroughbreds, and the glass wears it on a blue map. Kentucky also claims Abraham Lincoln, who was born near Hodgenville, and Mammoth Cave, the longest known cave system in the world, and both are marked here.
