Peter Calvesbert carved this in 1991, before Harmony Kingdom became Harmony Kingdom. The salmon swimming upstream — their "Journey Home" — are rendered with a realism unusual for a line better known for its whimsical anthropomorphic animals. The carving detail is exceptional: the scales, the motion, the sense of water and effort. Made of crushed marble and resin, hand-painted to resemble ivory or carved wood, it's a material that photographs one way and impresses entirely differently in hand.
This piece predates the 1994 Harmony Kingdom contract and the HBC logo introduced in 1996, which means it carries no markings — but that early provenance is precisely what makes it interesting to serious collectors. Retired in September 1999.
At five inches long it's a functional trinket box as well as a display piece — jewelry, rings, small keepsakes. A meaningful gift for a fisherman, a fly fishing enthusiast, a nature lover, or a Harmony Kingdom collector.
