A beautiful hand painted lacquer trinket and storage box. The design looks like fireworks to us, and in the center of each firework is a mother of pearl bead. The handle is a black wooden knob with a beautiful silk tassel in red and gold woven within it. It looks like it is signed by the artist, and there are Chinese characters on the lid. The inside is lacquered in black with a beige band in the center, which shows on the outside when the box is closed. Unfortunately there are no markings to identify the maker, so we can't tell you much beyond the description.
Great on a shelf or living room table as decor, or to store jewelry and other small treasures.
Lacquerware, made by layering the sap of the lacquer tree and polishing it to a deep, glossy finish, has been prized across East Asia for centuries.
