Two scenes of 19th-century American life, rendered with the warmth and detail that made Currier & Ives the most celebrated printmakers of their era — now on a pair of handsome metal trays made by Guildcraft for Sunshine Biscuits in 1976.
The first, "The Village Blacksmith" (originally lithographed in 1864), captures a country forge mid-work, children passing by. The second, "The Mill Dam at Sleepy Hollow" (circa 1850), stills the water at the Tarrytown gristmill, a man fishing from a wooden bridge among willow trees. Both trays are finished in a rich brown and gold rim that elevates them well beyond the average tin — they read as framed art as much as serveware. Each tray carries notes on the back about the image and its maker.
Display them as a pair on a gallery wall, use them as serving trays at a farmhouse table, or give them as a gift to an Americana or Currier & Ives collector.
