A lovely set, ideal for the teacup collector, for display, or for the pure enjoyment of drinking tea.
Everything is rimmed in gold and the handle is accented in gold. Duchess names both the patterns and shapes of their wares; this set has the "Fragrance" pattern (decal) on an "Amber" teacup (shape). Both pieces have the backstamp "Duchess Bone China England, 437 Fragrance." Duchess China was founded in 1888 as "Dresden Porcelain Company" in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England, and is one of the few true remaining British manufacturers of fine bone china tableware, teaware, and giftware — over 130 years of experience producing beautiful, quality products in-house. In 1905 the original company was taken over by the Blyth Porcelain Company. In 1935 it was taken over by A.T. Finney and Sons, who produced fine bone china under the Duchess backstamp for the next 85 years. In 1989 A.T. Finneys was sold to the John Tams Group, and in 1999 Grimwades Ltd, who also owned the Royal Winton brand, purchased the Duchess factory and continued the tradition of producing fine bone china.
