A full orchid bloom — purple petals, bright green leaves, possibly a cymbidium or dendrobium — on fine translucent porcelain with a rounded silhouette that reads as unmistakably mid-century. A smaller orchid graces the saucer. Gold at the rim and handle. Everything about it is composed and unhurried.
The backstamp reads "B-954 Japan" — a pattern number without a maker's name, not uncommon among mid-century Japanese export porcelain, which was often produced by small regional factories for the American market without prominent branding. What remains is the piece itself: hand painted, fine, very translucent, and in very good condition after sixty-plus years.
A lovely piece for an orchid lover, a teacup collector, or a gift for someone who appreciates the quietly exotic. Beautiful for a birthday, Mother's Day, or any occasion that calls for something personal and pretty.
