Blue and white florals on English ironstone — the Avondale pattern has the warmth of French country, the charm of Victorian florals, and the durability of a material built to last. It's one of J&G Meakin's most loved patterns, and easy to understand why. Please note the cups have some staining and crazing — fully photographed and priced accordingly; the saucers are perfect. Details in the condition notes below.

Both pieces carry the backstamp: the cup embossed "J&G Meakin, England," the saucer stamped "Royal Staffordshire, Avondale Ironstone by J.&G. Meakin England." The absence of later markings like "dishwasher proof" dates these to between 1962 and 1970. Set of 2 cups and 2 saucers, 4 pieces total.

J&G Meakin was founded in 1851 in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, growing to become the largest potting company in Britain by the late 19th century, primarily exporting to the US and British Empire. The Wedgwood Group acquired them in 1970; the Eagle Pottery closed in 2004. A piece of real English pottery history.

A wonderful find for a blue and white collector, a Meakin enthusiast, or anyone who knows how to bring ironstone back to its best. Lovely for a housewarming or as a gift for a collector who loves a project.
