This 1976 Kay Dee calendar tea towel, printed in America's bicentennial year, features the iconic "Spirit of '76" image — a piece of American kitchen history in its own right.

The image is based on Archibald MacNeal Willard's beloved 1875 painting of three Revolutionary soldiers — fife, drum, and flag in hand — marching forward. The full 1976 calendar is printed below, making it as functional as it is festive. Printed at the bottom with "Dakin Farm" of Ferrisburg, Vermont — most likely issued as a promotional gift for their customers during the bicentennial year. A rod pocket along the top makes it easy to display with a dowel. Kay Dee has been hand-printing linen kitchen towels and calendar towels since 1951, operating out of Hope Valley, Rhode Island, and is still in business today. Dakin Farm was founded by Sam Cutting III in Ferrisburg, Vermont in 1960, originally selling maple syrup under the name "Dakin Farm Maple Market" — still thriving today with a much expanded product line.
