A 1950s swizzle stick from the Pelican Restaurant in Clearwater Beach, Florida — a colorful souvenir from one of the Gulf Coast's most beloved vanished landmarks.

This swizzle stick is topped with an oversized cartoon pelican wearing a hat — proportionally large compared to most figural swizzle sticks, taking up nearly half the stick's total length. "PELICAN" appears in a bold Playbill-style woodblock font that extends outward past the width of the stick, while "Restaurant, Clearwater, FL" is set in much smaller lettering that sits flush within the flat stem.
A wonderful find for the swizzle stick collector, the Florida Gulf Coast enthusiast, or anyone drawn to mid-century seaside restaurant history.
The Pelican Restaurant opened in 1938 on Clearwater Beach, built by owner Henry Henriquez, and became a landmark known for its "original stuffed fried shrimp" and a cartoon pelican mascot — depicted in a chef's hat and apron — that appeared on its menus and postcards for decades. The restaurant was also famous for a large driftwood pelican carving displayed at its entrance. A 1974 fire destroyed much of the original building; the driftwood pelican was salvaged, and the restaurant was rebuilt on the same site, continuing to operate into the early 1990s before closing for good. The property is condominiums today, making surviving pieces like this one a tangible link to one of Clearwater Beach's most beloved vanished restaurants.
