Someone painted these by hand, probably at a parlor table, sometime in the early twentieth century.

The practice of decorating imported porcelain blanks was a beloved pastime among high-society women in the late 19th and early 20th centuries — and these scalloped muffineer shakers bear the hallmarks of that tradition: hand-painted grapes and apples rendered with genuine skill, a gilded border, and 13 pierced holes for shaking sugar over fruit or scones. A hole on the base confirms these as sugar shakers, not hatpin holders. Cork stoppers appear original. Two in stock, both in the same excellent antique condition. Versatile enough for powdered sugar, cinnamon, vanilla sugar, or even bath salts.

A beautiful antique for a collector of early American painted porcelain, a distinguished breakfast table accent, or an heirloom-quality gift.
