There are Lenox platters, and then there are Lenox platters that make you stop mid-sentence to look more closely.

The Rutledge P-303 is the latter. The decoration is hand-applied enamel — tiny flowers in yellow, blue, red, and orange nestled among vibrant green grass, as if scattered across a spring meadow and caught mid-tumble. The 16" oval body is fluted all around the border, creating both a beautiful pleated effect and a practical grip, and finished with a 24-karat gold verge.  The ivory bone china body is characteristic of Lenox's American production. In use from 1939 through 2020, this pattern had a longer run than most — and pieces in this condition are worth finding.

An elegant gift for the Lenox collector, the formal table enthusiast, or anyone who considers the platter the most important piece on the table. 

Founded in 1889 by Walter Scott Lenox as the Ceramic Art Company in Trenton, NJ, Lenox grew into America's most prestigious maker of tableware and décor. In 1918, it made history as the first US china company to produce an official state service for the White House. Lenox further transformed American culture in the 1950s by pioneering the modern bridal registry. By 2020, it stood as the last significant manufacturer of bone china in the United States. However, pandemic pressures forced the closure of its final American factory in Kinston, NC, on April 17, 2020, followed by its retail stores that July. Today, Lenox continues operating under private equity firm Centre Lane Partners, with all production shifted overseas.
