Serving Platter, Franciscan Desert Rose, Hand-Painted Earthenware, 14", Gladding McBean, California, Vintage 1966

Introduced in 1941 and described as one of the most popular patterns ever made in America, Franciscan's Desert Rose needs little introduction — but this particular piece deserves one.

This 14" oval platter is original Gladding McBean production, marked "Made in California" and dated 1966 — the Interpace era, before the pattern moved to England and eventually China. It's hand-painted earthenware in the warm off-white that is characteristic of the line, with the familiar embossed pink rose and green leaf motif that made this pattern a multigenerational American classic. A very minor chip on the rim is photographed and priced accordingly. Hand wash only.
