Turtles are long-standing symbols of longevity, luck, and resilience, making this a fitting gift for an art glass collector or anyone drawn to the quiet craftsmanship of classic American luxury glassmaking.

Designed by Lloyd Atkins (1922–2002), who studied at the Pratt Institute before serving in WWII and completing his industrial design certificate afterward, this turtle reflects fifty years of Atkins's work at Steuben. He joined the company's design staff in 1948 and remained for the next five decades, becoming one of its most prolific designers — well known for his animal sculptures, many of which are now held in public and private collections. Signed "Steuben" in script on the base, this hand cooler was originally made to keep hands cool but has long since become a favorite as a decorative object or paperweight in its own right.
