Octagonal in shape, with a delicately etched floral pattern, this blue glass tray catches the light beautifully, and the center handle makes it ideal for passing at the table. It is a heavy piece.

The center-handled sandwich tray, also called a tidbit tray, was a staple of American glass houses, with Cambridge, Fostoria, Paden City and Tiffin among the makers that turned them out in the popular colors of the day. Because so many were never marked, and paper labels rarely survived, an unsigned piece like this one is attributed by style rather than proven by a mark. The octagonal shape, etched flowers and blue glass here have the feel of Paden City, Cambridge, or Jeannette Glass, all of whom produced similar trays, though we cannot confirm the maker.
