This mini painted rocking horse never left its original package — a small, sturdy piece that's spent decades waiting for a craft project, a shelf or a stocking. Sold as "Item 1117" by Miniature Collectibles, it's the kind of unfussy novelty that turns up in a memory before it turns up in a shop.

The horse is cast in white plastic with a hand-painted black-and-gray mane and tail, a red bridle traced across the face, and a saddle blanket picked out in green, black, and gold. It's mounted on a bright red rocker base molded as one piece with the horse's legs, capturing the look of a child's rocking-horse toy in miniature. There's no hanging loop, but the open space beneath the horse's chin — between the bridle line and the neck — is just wide enough to thread a narrow ribbon through, letting it hang the way a small ornament would.

A natural fit as a party favor, doll house or shadow box.  For a wreath or garland accent, a nostalgic addition to a Christmas tree, or a stocking-stuffer for a horse lover — equally at home on a crafting table as it is on a shelf with other equestrian miniatures.
