The flying horse, the open road, and a map that outlasted the company.
Made by Rand McNally for Mobilgas in 1952, this Pennsylvania, Delaware and Chesapeake Bay road map is a beautiful piece of mid-century oil and gas history. The cover bears the famous Pegasus — the flying horse trademark adopted in 1931 when Standard Oil of New York and Vacuum Oil merged to form Socony-Vacuum. The back cover is filled with Mobilgas and Mobiloil product advertisements, a full time capsule in folded paper. In remarkable condition: no tears, stains, or writing — just the warm patina of time.
A wonderful gift for map collectors, oil and gas history enthusiasts, Pennsylvania nostalgia seekers, or anyone who loves the graphic design of mid-century America.
