A regional brand, a national map, and a road trip waiting to happen.
Champlin Refining Company was founded in Enid, Oklahoma by Hiram Champlin in 1917, and ran until 1984 when its retail operations were sold to American Petrofina and the plant closed. This 1948 Missouri road map — dated by the Rand McNally production code — carries the Champlin Presto Gasoline logo on the cover, Champlin oil advertisements inside, the full Missouri state map on one side, and a complete United States map on the other. A particularly useful find for the collector: two maps for one. Like most well-traveled maps, it shows its age with fold-line tears, yellowing, and staining — the patina of a working road companion.
A great piece for Champlin collectors, oil and gas history enthusiasts, Missouri nostalgia lovers, or anyone who appreciates mid-century American road culture.
