This particular scene depicts the early 20th-century surfing culture of Waikiki, when local surfers — many of them Native Hawaiian — rode 11-foot solid wooden boards and sometimes offered rides to tourists, long before surfing became the global phenomenon it is today. Although the image looks thoroughly vintage, the Hawaii collection was actually produced in the early 2000s, first exhibited in 2006 — making this a contemporary collectible in the retro travel poster tradition rather than a vintage piece.
