Over a century old. In a round gesso frame. By an artist who lived to be nearly 102. This piece has outlasted almost everything around it.

This is an antique "Autumn" print by Susan Beatrice Pearse (1878–1980) — a child in nature beside a swan, from her Childhood Fairytale Prints collection, dated 1924. Printed on hardboard, encased in a round hand-painted gesso frame, with the artist's printed signature lower left. Published by Edward Gross Co., New York (1906–c.1963). Original publisher's tag on reverse, faded but legible. One available. Ready to hang.

Susan Beatrice Pearse was one of Britain's most beloved illustrators of children's books and decorative prints — best known for the Ameliaranne series of children's books, she also contributed to Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopedia, illustrated greeting cards and postcards, and created an advertising campaign for Start-rite shoes. She studied at the New Cross Art School and the Royal College of Art in London. She was born in 1878 and died in 1980, just short of her 102nd birthday. Her Childhood Fairytale Prints series, published by Edward Gross Co. in the 1920s, is actively collected today as a rare example of early 20th-century American decorative print publishing at its most charming.

This piece is over 100 years old and carries its age honestly — wear throughout, slight fading, a small rub mark near the top, a paper tear on the right side, water stain marks, and frame nicks. The backing paper has tape repairs. A rudimentary hanging wire is in place and usable but may benefit from replacement. All photographed and fully disclosed. Priced accordingly for a piece of genuine antique character.

A wonderful piece for a Susan B. Pearse collector, an antique nursery print enthusiast, a lover of Edwardian and early 20th-century children's illustration, or anyone who appreciates pieces with a century of life behind them.
