Between 1900 and 1915, Germany was the world's finest printer of illustrated postcards — embossed, gilded, lithographed with a richness that American and British presses couldn't match. These Thanksgiving postcards are survivors of that golden age: small, vivid, tactile objects that were mailed with one-cent stamps and kept for decades. Each is an original, not a reproduction. This particular card is unusual even among antique postcards — the lavender and blue air-brush treatment over the embossed illustration gives it a dreamy, painterly quality unlike anything else in the collection. Written on the reverse in pencil (from grandma), not posted.
