A white Spitz on a blue background — three-quarters of an inch of dog breed history.

In the 1940s and 50s, small lithographed tin pinback buttons depicting dog breeds were popular novelty items and collector's pieces — tiny portraits of beloved breeds rendered in vivid color on ¾-inch metal buttons. Original, not reproductions, these are in very good vintage condition with the expected wear of items now 70+ years old. The German Spitz — the word "Spitz" meaning pointed in German, referring to the breed's sharp features — originated in cold-climate regions of Scandinavia, Russia, and Asia before becoming especially associated with Germany. At ¾ inch diameter, please note the small size before purchasing.

For a dog breed pin collector, a German Spitz enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates a very small and very specific piece of mid-century Americana.
