Sterling silver and sapphire blue — a combination that never dates. This Carl Art circle brooch is a study in mid-century restraint: alternating marquise-cut sapphire blue and round clear rhinestones set into a sterling silver frame, clean in line, confident in presence. The kind of piece that looks equally at home on a winter coat or a spring blouse.
Carl Art Jewelry Company was founded in 1936 in Providence, Rhode Island by German immigrant Carl Schraysshuen and businessman Arthur Loercher. They produced gold, gold-filled, and sterling silver jewelry under their own name and for houses including Walter Lampl and Bliss Brothers. Schraysshuen held 42 jewelry patents — many of them flowing floral designs — and the company remained active until 1976. Collectible, well-made, and increasingly hard to find.
A beautiful everyday brooch, or a meaningful gift for a jewelry collector, a mid-century enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates quietly exceptional things. Lovely for birthdays, anniversaries, or a well-chosen holiday present.
