This footed serving plate rewards a second look — an applied floral border of remarkable intricacy, deeply etched scrollwork across the surface, shell feet, and the practical bonus of an original Pyrex glass liner that makes it genuinely usable for hot dishes.

  • Maker: Crown Silver Company
  • Materials: Silverplate with Pyrex glass insert
  • Origin: Brookline, Massachusetts, USA
  • Era: Vintage, 1935–1950 (maker's operating window)
  • Dimensions: 12" diameter overall; 9" center (accommodates a 9" pie)
  • Condition:  Very Good — some worn plating on applied border (photographed); minor surface scratches in center consistent with age; no dents. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

This is silverplate at its most accomplished, from a maker whose hallmark took real research to identify: Crown Silver Company Inc. of Brookline, Massachusetts. The backstamp is intentionally faint — Crown Silver used a delicate mark — but it's there, confirmed against "Silver Hallmarks and Marks." That detective work is part of what makes a piece like this special.

At 12 inches with a Pyrex liner built in, it's equally suited to serving a hot pie or casserole at a holiday table, displaying fruit or pastries on a buffet, or — liner removed — standing alone as a striking wall accent or vanity display piece.

Crown Silver Company Inc. operated in Brookline, Massachusetts from 1935 to 1950, a relatively brief run that makes surviving marked pieces like this one a genuine find for serious silverplate collectors researching lesser-documented American makers.
