• Condition: Vintage, used — very good. The cardinal red felt body remains clean and vibrant with no moth damage or fabric thinning, and the graphics are sharp and clean. The reverse cardboard tag has left a permanent diagonal fold crease on the upper left corner of the spine. A small 1/8-inch hanging hole in the center of the spine has opened into a minor vertical tear from past display, and the tip shows wrinkling, minor fraying, and a small tack hole. A vibrant Stanford Cardinal Red felt body with a matching red left spine band carries crisp white oil-enamel block lettering in clean, mid-century-style typography. The paint has the rigid, "stiff-feeling" texture prized by vintage collectors. On the reverse is the original cardboard price sticker reading "College Football Hall of Fame," with the building illustration and the original $1.00 retail price.

The late 1970s brought a resurgence to Stanford football under Bill Walsh, who coached the Cardinal in 1977 and 1978, winning the Sun Bowl and the Bluebonnet Bowl before leaving to lead the San Francisco 49ers; star receiver James Lofton, also a standout on the track, was taken sixth overall in the 1978 NFL Draft. The pennant's rigid oil-enamel printing and tassel-free layout follow the style of 1940s pennants, a design associated with wartime material shortages, and it appears to be a heritage-style reissue made for the new museum.
