A boy, a dog, a red wagon, and a t-shirt that says everything — the kind of image that stops you cold and makes you smile.
An original watercolor by Vermont artist Hattie Saville, from her series "Stories in Watercolor." The subject: a boy pulling his dog in a red wagon, the boy's shirt reading "I'm Somebody Special" — the title of the piece made visible within the painting itself. Bright, cheerful, and entirely charming. Signed by the artist. Matted and framed; the frame is original and shows its age — if gifting, consider a fresh frame to let the art shine. Watercolor measures approx. 6 7/8" × 6 1/2"; framed 10 5/8" × 8 5/8". Very good condition. Hattie Saville was born as Harriet Jean Bristol, on January 14, 1925 in Burlington, Vermont. She studied at the University of Vermont from 1942 to 1946. Married Richard Saville on November 27, 1948 and moved to Stockbridge, Mass. She developed her long-time love of art into a business, as a childhood watercolor painter and was recognized at the 1994 Northern Vermont Artists Association 78th Annual Juried Show, receiving the Mary Bryan Award. She also taught watercolor locally. Hattie passed away at 97 years of age, on January 22, 2022 - these original paintings matters as there will never be more made. For a child's room, a nursery, a playroom, or anywhere a small piece of genuine joy belongs. A perfect gift for a new parent, a Vermont art collector, or anyone who simply loves a red wagon.
