A small green pleated-glass oil lamp on a brass-tone base, model No. 530, made in British Hong Kong, and it really does work.
- Materials: Green glass, brass-tone metal base
- Dimensions: 10" tall including chimney; approx. 3" diameter (base)
- Origin: British Crown Colony of Hong Kong
- Era: Vintage 1960s-1970s
- Condition: Good; the chimney is chipped all around the base, though that part sits inside the burner and is hidden when assembled (photographed for you, so handle with care to avoid cutting yourself). There is discoloration in the metal parts and a tiny bit of rust, and we left the old patina in place. Complete with body, burner, wick and chimney. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.
The green glass body is nicely pleated, set on a sturdy base. When lit indoors, use lamp oil rather than kerosene.
Small enough to fit on a fireplace mantel, and charming on a patio table for dining outside or lit indoors on an evening at home.
Little chimney lamps like this one, often called hurricane lamps, shield the flame from drafts and wind, which is what makes them so well suited to patio dinners. This one was made in Hong Kong, then a British Crown Colony, which by the 1960s and 1970s had become a major center for making and exporting household goods to the rest of the world.
