A 19th-century lithograph, a four-finger handle, and blue-and-white porcelain made in Japan — this time, a stately homestead standing quiet under a blanket of snow.
Currier & Ives produced their beloved American scene lithographs between 1835 and 1907, and "The Homestead in Winter" captures one of their quieter winter subjects — a snow-covered homestead, composed and still, a world away from their more famous sleigh-ride scenes. This 1980s Japanese porcelain shaving mug brings that image into the bathroom in classic blue and white. The wide flat base and four-finger handle are the tell — these were designed for lathering shaving soap, not coffee (though you could).
A beautiful piece for an Americana collector, a winter display, a farmhouse bath, or a Father's Day gift for the man who still shaves the old-fashioned way. We also carry the companion mug featuring "The Farmer's Home in Winter" scene — collect both for a matched display, or browse our shop for more vintage barware.
