PAPEL Imports was founded by Phil Papel in 1955. Using the name of his grandmother, Fannie Papel, he opened two companies: Phil Papel Imports and Ruggles China & Gifts, located on Main Street at Disneyland. They were the first company to introduce mugs as a personalized gift item, starting with relatives (dad, sister, etc), followed by a myriad of designs like name mugs, name origin mugs, Kiss Me I'm... mugs, golf, Olympics, and so much more. In 1985 Papel celebrated their 30th anniversary and were recognized as a leader in the giftware industry. Now run by Stanley Papel, they are still in business.
