From Zanesville’s “five and dime” era — before Shawnee even marked their own name on pieces.
Shawnee Pottery (Zanesville, OH, 1937–1961) didn’t begin marking pieces “Shawnee” until the 1950s, which means this unmarked Owl Chick / Blue Bird pitcher — hand painted in cheerful blue and white with rosy accents and gold details — dates to the earliest years of the pottery, 1937–1942. The inside shows significant glaze wear, so this piece is recommended for display only, not for food or drink use. The exterior and all painted surfaces are charming and full of character.
