Black circles interlace with gray loops across bone-white porcelain — graphic, modern, and utterly of its moment. The Basonge pattern is Narumi at their most daring.

Produced from 1974 and discontinued just four years later in 1978, Basonge had one of the shortest runs in Narumi's catalog — which is precisely why it is so rarely found, and why this set of two, still in their original plastic packaging, is such a genuine find. Distributed in the United States by Mikasa, these bowls were never used. Narumi, founded in 1911, was the first Japanese manufacturer to successfully mass-produce and export bone china to the US, and their hallmarks are density, luster, and extraordinary translucency when backlit. The Basonge pattern is beautiful enough to float a candle in, corral small objects on a desk, or simply display.

A striking gift for the modernist collector, the Mikasa or Narumi enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates a piece of design history still in its original wrapping.
