Currier & Ives captured America at its most pastoral — and Bing & Grondahl rendered it in some of the finest porcelain in the world.
This is plate #759, the ninth issue in the twelve-plate series produced exclusively by Bing & Grondahl for the Danbury Mint, based on 19th-century Currier & Ives lithographs. "Autumn in New England" depicts a working farm in full harvest season: a farmer, cattle, a white horse, and the kind of barn-and-tree composition that defined American rural imagery for a century. The scrollwork border and gold rim are both in excellent condition. Pre-drilled for wire hanging, or use a plate hanger or stand.
Bing & Grondahl, founded in Copenhagen in 1853, is one of the most respected names in European porcelain — the same house that launched the world's first annual Christmas plate series in 1895. A beautiful autumn accent, and an excellent gift for a Currier & Ives collector or anyone who loves American Americana and fine European craft together.
