This tureen is a genuine find: a sculptural, fully functional piece handcrafted in Portugal, where this tradition of earthenware storytelling runs deep. The lid — the hen herself, chicks nestled at her sides — lifts away to reveal the woven-nest bowl beneath, her palette rendered in the deep, warm browns, mossy green, and rust-red crest typical of classic majolica. She's impressed simply "Made in Portugal" on the base, with no factory mark — just the confidence of a craftsman who let the work speak for itself.
We also carry a documented antique William Kent hen in nest and a Bordallo Pinheiro majolica hen — browse our Hen in Nest collection to compare styles across eras.
