Gibson Greetings traces its roots to 1850, when George Gibson and his family emigrated from Scotland to the United States, bringing a small lithography press with them. His sons settled in Cincinnati and founded Gibson & Company, Lithographers, which grew into one of the largest greeting card manufacturers in the country — at its peak, the third-largest in the U.S., behind only Hallmark and American Greetings. Gibson Greetings closed in 2000 after being acquired by American Greetings, though its cards live on as a product line under the American Greetings umbrella today.
