J&G Meakin was one of the great Staffordshire potteries — founded by the Meakin brothers in Hanley in 1851, it became at one point the largest potting company in Britain. Their Classic White collection, introduced in the early 1960s, brought clean ironstone forms to the mid-century table; the Lucerne pattern adds a simple band of green tulips, leaves, and swirls that feels perennially fresh.

The traditional gravy boat form — handle and single spout — makes this a practical as well as beautiful piece. White and green mixes easily with most table settings, and particularly well with spring and summer entertaining. Stamped "J&G Meakin, England, Classic White, Lucerne" on the base. In excellent vintage condition.

A lovely addition to a Meakin collection, a green-and-white table, or a kitchen that appreciates the enduring quality of English ironstone.
