John Maddock & Sons was founded in Burslem, England in 1830 and stayed in business for 150 years — through two world wars and every financial storm the Staffordshire potteries weathered. The Majestic pattern, issued between 1896 and 1906, is considered one of the two finest patterns the firm ever produced. It is immediately recognizable: rust-colored roses, dark navy blue fill, green and brown leaves, all hand-decorated in gold, with a scalloped border and foot finished in hand-applied gold accents. These pieces are no longer used at the table — they are displayed.
A full disclosure on condition: there is a fine line on the bottom that does not appear to penetrate fully, and the handle has been repaired (not by us). Both are photographed in detail. Priced accordingly — this is a collector's acquisition, not a serving piece.
