They started life as peanut butter jars. They ended up as the most cheerful glasses in your cabinet.

This is the great American peanut butter glass story — Anchor Hocking produced decorated glass jars for food companies throughout the mid-20th century, with the understanding that once the peanut butter was gone, the jar became a drinking glass. It was thrift, charm, and good design all at once, and it produced some of the most beloved collectible glassware of the era. These two feature bumble bees and beehives in bold yellow and black enamel — a design that is impossible not to smile at — and the enamel is in absolutely wonderful condition after forty-plus years.

Both bear the stylized Anchor Glass Container Corp trademark logo. An interesting collector's note: though the glasses appear identical, the mold numbers differ — one is stamped 7, the other 27. For serious Anchor Hocking collectors, this distinction matters.

The interior glass shows surface scratches consistent with years of enthusiastic peanut butter extraction — the bees themselves are pristine. No chips or cracks.

Use them as juice glasses, cocktail glasses, or simply display them on an open shelf where they will reliably make people happy.

Anchor Hocking was founded in Lancaster, Ohio in 1905 and became one of America's most prolific and beloved glass manufacturers, producing everything from Depression Glass to promotional food jars to elegant barware. Their decorated peanut butter and jelly glasses from the 1960s through the 1980s are now among the most actively collected categories in American glass, with the best designs commanding serious prices at auction.
