Five glasses with a story worth knowing.

The Golden Foliage pattern was introduced by Libbey in 1956 and became so iconic that Libbey's own 1968 catalog declared: "This is the genuine Golden Foliage line and its imitators are endless." Starlyte was one of those imitators — and a worthy one. According to the Museum of American Glass, Anchor Hocking made the blank glass pieces, which Starlyte then decorated in their own interpretation of the pattern: delicate 22K gold leaves set within a frosted band.

The difference between Libbey and Starlyte is subtle but real, and it matters to serious collectors. Starlyte glasses have long, thin stems; Libbey's have thicker stems with bulbs at the base. This is a Starlyte set — pattern 59-W.

Very little is known about Starlyte Inc. They were founded in New York on September 1, 1970 and closed on December 23, 1992, leaving behind at least 8 well-documented patterns, all in 22K gold. Their patterns don't have names — just letters and numbers — which makes each piece a quiet piece of American glass history.

Use them for cocktails, small wine pours, sorbets, or a fall bar cart display. Gift them to a collector who will appreciate exactly what they are.

A note on condition: there is some gold wear, one glass showing more than the others, and one glass has a slight manufacturing smear on the gold rim. All photographed and priced accordingly.
