Eight sides, two alternating floral patterns, a handled lid — a mid-century English biscuit tin at its most beautiful.
- Maker: Attributed to BW&M (Barringer, Wallis & Manners Ltd) / The Metal Box Co
- Materials: Metal tin
- Dimensions: 4.5" wide, 6.0" tall (including lid)
- Origin: England
- Era: Vintage, 1940s
- Condition: Vintage, used — very good; no dents; rust spots and wear on gold handle consistent with age; interior clean. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.
Two alternating Asian floral designs repeat around the sides: one in blue, pink, and green; the other in yellow, orange, blue, and green — both intricate, both striking. The lidded design with its gold-toned handle suggests its original life as an English biscuit tin. Unmarked, but the pattern and form are consistent with BW&M work.
A wonderful piece for the English tin collector or a chinoiserie display. We also carry this pattern in a cylindrical style.
Barringer, Wallis & Manners Ltd — makers of some of England's finest decorative biscuit tins — was acquired by The Metal Box Co in 1939, and this octagonal tin dates to that era or slightly after.
