A golden iridescent border catches the light; a pear and walnut composition fills the center with quiet warmth. This Bavarian porcelain fruit bowl is a small, beautiful thing.
The backstamp shows a triangle mark attributed by some researchers to Jena, Bareuther & Co. of Waldsassen, Bavaria (1884–1887), and by others to a New York importer — the exact origin remains a subject of collector debate. What is not in question is the quality: fine German porcelain with an embossed swirl border finished in luminous iridescent yellow-gold, and a naturalistic fruit and nut motif that would have graced a formal table with ease. Please note there is a hairline crack on the underside and a small chip on the border, visible in the photos — best suited for display rather than active use, and priced accordingly.
A lovely piece for a collector of Bavarian porcelain, a decorator layering antique ceramics into a tablescape, or anyone who appreciates the beauty of flawed, honest old things.
