The Flower Girl in her blue dress, blue shoes, and wide straw hat with a blue ribbon, holding a bouquet — and the Teddy Bear Boy in his blue suit with a pink bow tie, bear tucked under his arm. Two of the most beloved figures from Joan Walsh Anglund's porcelain collection, distributed by Ebeling & Reuss and marked on the bottom of each. Both have some paint loss on the back, and the girl has a small chip on her hair bow — all photographed for your review and priced accordingly. Please note the condition details before purchasing.

Joan Walsh Anglund was born in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1926 and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. It was her husband who first recognized her gift, discovering her private writings and encouraging her to illustrate them. Her first book, "A Friend Is Someone Who Likes You" (1958), sold millions of copies. She went on to publish more than 120 books of poetry and illustration. She is also the true author of the often-misattributed quote: "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song." Joan Walsh Anglund passed away on March 9, 2021.

Ebeling & Reuss Co. was established in 1886 as Zeh, Ebeling & Reuss — importers of dinnerware, decorations, and gifts from European countries. After Zeh withdrew in 1900 the company moved to Devon, Pennsylvania, and remained family-owned until 1992.

A lovely gift for a child's room, an Anglund collector, or anyone who treasures the gentle magic of childhood illustration. We carry other Joan Walsh Anglund pieces — search our shop to see what's available.
