  • Pattern:  Vintage Figurine, Lefton Boy and Girl Under Umbrella, Hummel Style
  • Made in Japan
  • Vintage: 1946 - 1953
  • Details: An adorable collectible from Lefton, this figurine features a boy and a girl sitting under a very large umbrella waiting out the rain in conversation. The faces are so detailed, you can almost hear the boy telling the little girl a very interesting story as she listens attentively.  They are hand painted in the traditional Hummel colors, (again, this is not a real Hummel but 'Hummel style' from Lefton), with orange bandanas, suspenders on the boy and an apron on the girl.  Luckily this one retains its original foil sticker which reads: "Lefton Trade Mark Exclusives, Japan". which helped us date it between 1946 and 1953.   If you're a Lefton collector, we hope this piece is a great find.  If you're looking for a unique decor piece for a child's room or nursery, we think this would be adorable!

Lefton (actually called Geo. Zoltan Lefton Company) was started in Chicago in 1941 by George Lefton, an immigrant from Hungary who's hobby was collecting fine porcelain. Mr. Lefton didn't manufacture his wares, he was an importer of Japanese porcelain but had very high quality standards for his manufacturers and that's one of the reasons his items are still collected and highly regarded today.  His reputation earned him the name of The China King.  In the mid 1970's he started importing items from other countries such as China, Italy and England.  In the 1980's he was also importing from Taiwan and Malaysia.  George Lefton died in 1996 and the company was sold in 2001 but the mark "Lefton" is still being used.  Lefton marks include: stamps, labels, or numbers, unfortunately when it is a paper (foil) label, they are almost always missing by the time we find them.  Lefton was sold to OMT Enterprises of Gardena, California, in 2005 and is now a division of that company.
