She's turning five and she's ready — pastel lemon-green dress with gold trim at the collar, sleeves, and waist, wings touched in gold, a little book in her hands for the kindergarten year just ahead. The Birthday Angels series by Josef Originals is one of the most beloved and widely collected figurine lines in America, and this one is in perfect condition.
Josef Originals were designed by Muriel Joseph George (a printer's misspelling changed the name forever to Josef) beginning in 1945. Her figurines were first produced in California, then Japan, and eventually China — where this later piece originates. After Muriel retired in 1981, the brand passed through George Good, Applause, and Dakin before the name landed with Russ Berrie. The backstamp reads "Josef Originals" and the original gold foil "Made in China" sticker is intact.
A wonderful birthday gift for a five-year-old, a meaningful start to a collection, or a replacement for a broken piece. Also a sweet nostalgic find for anyone who received one of these as a child.
